Automobile Services Engineering Course was started in the year 1950 and was registered with City & Guild, London. The name of the Course was changed to Automobile Engineering when it was approved by All India Council of Technical Education, Govt. of India and affiliated to West Bengal State Council of Technical Education in the year 1994, Govt. of West Bengal.

The Diploma Course in Computer Science and Technology was approved by West Bengal State Council in the year 2002. Both these courses were running in the name of SCM Air Technical Institute. Now with the object of offering better and greater opportunities to the students the said two courses will henceforth be run under the name "SCM Institute of Engineering & Technology", approved by AICTE and affiliated to West Bengal State Council for Technical Education.

The results in the final examination of both the courses conducted by the West Bengal State Council are excellent, most of the students having secured first division. In Automobile Engineering, the students of the Institute ranked First in West Bengal Final Examination of 2004 and 2007.

The Institute has two libraries, number of workshops and laboratories for both the courses and modern training equipments. Records of placement and/or admission to lateral courses are very high. Extra curricular activities are also encouraged for personality development.
